We are so excited to offer you this all inclusive, Mountain Skills 1 Course and Camping Weekend. The Mountain Skills 1 official training course will increase your confidence in the mountains and on the trails. Learn some of the skills needed to become a self proficient hill walker. Weekend price: €349.00 fully residential which includes your Mountain Skills course and tuition, food, campsite fees & camping equipment (if you don't have your own). WHAT YOU LEARN ON THE MOUNTAIN SKILLS 1 COURSE • Navigation • How to read maps • Pacing & timing • Route planning • Feature recognition • Grid references • Suitable apps • Mountain hazards & weather • Personal equipment • Access and land ownership • Responsible recreation THE ITINERARY FOR THE WEEKEND Friday 7.00 pm Dinner & camp fire 8.00 pm Course introduction 8.30 pm Chats around the campfire! Saturday 7.30 am Breakfast and make packed lunches. 8.30 am Workshop - personal equipment, how to pack and carry your day-pack 9.30 am Practical hill walk - maps, map setting, contour features, navigational techniques, relocation, distances. 2.30 pm Back to camp for hot drinks/showers. 3.30 pm Workshop - access & responsible recreation, review of maps, weather forecasts and navigation apps. 5.00 pm Free time 6.00 pm Dinner & camp fire 7.00 pm Workshop - Mountain Hazards 8.00 pm Chats around the campfire! Sunday Strike camp 8.00 am Breakfast and make packed lunches. 9.00 am Workshop - review day 1 workshops, route planning, grid references 10.30 am Practical hill walk - review day 1 skills, pacing, timing, feature recognition, basic compass skills, what to do in a mountain emergency. 3.30 pm Debrief WHATS INCLUDED • Food - 2 x Breakfasts, 2 x lunches and 2 x Dinners • Your Mountain Skills course fee and syllabus • 2 hikes • 2 nights Camping • Itinerary & packing checklist • Chats, connection and community • Camping equipment: 2 person tent & sleeping mat (not included - camp cutlery, bowls, plates, cups, pillow). Cancellation Policy
We understand that things may arise last minute. We ask that you give us as much notice as possible so we can try and fill your spot. A cancellation of your spot will incur a €50 cancellation fee. Booking and Cancellation Policy A non-refundable deposit is required to secure your place on the course. If you cancel more than 4 weeks before the event: You will not be charged anything further beyond the non-refundable deposit. If you cancel between 2 and 4 weeks before the event: You will receive a 50% refund of the remaining balance. The other 50% of the balance may be transferred to another course. If you cancel within 2 weeks of the event: No refund will be given. However, the full balance may be transferred to another course.
