Service Description

We are inviting a small group of people currently going through a cancer journey to take part in a free 3-walk pilot series of gentle outdoor walks. These walks are about much more than exercise. They are small outdoor experiences in beautiful places, designed to help you reconnect with nature, clear your mind, and meet others who understand what you may be going through. Each session will last about 2 hours, with gentle walking of around 4–5 km, plenty of pauses, and some simple activities along the way. We’ll also stop for little moments like a hot drink, a snack, or a chance to take in the view. No experience is needed — just a willingness to step outside. What to Expect Over the three sessions we will: • Explore some beautiful walks in North/East Wicklow • Share simple ways to enjoy and explore nature safely • Experience nature through fun and interactive activities • Meet others in a relaxed and supportive environment You need a good pair of walking runners, waterproof jacket and a water bottle! This is not a fitness programme. It’s simply about getting outdoors together and feeling the benefits of nature. Who You’ll Be Walking With The walks will be led by very experienced mountain guides, alongside a qualified physiotherapist. Together they will guide the group at a gentle pace, support the activities along the way, and help ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe throughout the walk. Why This Is a Pilot This is the first time we are running this programme, and we would really value your feedback and ideas. Participants will be asked to join all three sessions (if possible!), so we can learn what works best and develop the programme for future groups. Who This Is For This pilot is open to adults currently going through or have been through a cancer journey. Spaces will be limited to keep the group small and supportive. The Overall 3-Walk Journey Sat 11th April 2026: Session 1 - Reconnect with nature - Rediscover the joy of nature - Vartry, Roundwood 9.00 am Wed 15th April 2026: Session 2 - Confidence - Learn how to explore safely - Sugar Loaf, Kilmacanogue 6.00 am Sat 25th April 2026: Session 3 - Independence - Leave as a future walker - Devil's Glen, Ashford - 9.00 am The focus is on beautiful experiences rather than exercise. People come for the moment. But they stay for the habit.


Upcoming Sessions


Cancellation Policy

Stride reserves the right to cancel or postpone an event due to unforeseen circumstances or safety. A hike will only be cancelled due to weather conditions if an orange or above weather warning is issued by met eireann and the event will be rescheduled. If you cannot attend, please notify us at strideireland@gmail.com as soon as possible so that we can offer up your place to anther participant.
