Outsider and Stride Winter Masterclass: Top tips and tricks for successful winter hikes.

Join Jenny Copeland and Louise Lawrence, two professional Mountain Leaders and Mountain Training Providers. Jenny is one of 8 Irish females to have climbed and submitted Mount Everest, while Louise has led over 40 international expeditions. Learn their tips and tricks for winter hiking success. All proceeds go to Glen Imaal Mountain Rescue. Start location: Glen of Imaal Wicklow Mountain Rescue Base in Kilafin, Trooperstown. Start time: 1.30 pm Finish time: 6.00 pm What you will learn: Introduction/recap of basic essential navigation skills. Navigate off the hill from day to dusk/night - techniques you use in poor visibility. Weather forecasts and the important information that you need for route choice and preparation in winter. The difference between summer and winter kit and what you should carry. Winter clothing and layering for colder weather. Winter emergencies and how to be prepared. Programme: Meet and greet in the Rescue Centre. Head out for a walk towards Paddock Hill. Practice navigation skills out onto the hill and back home. Workshops along the way (weather dependant - there is an option to have indoor sessions). What you need to bring: Hill walking clothing Extra warm layer - we will be moving slowly Rucksack Rain jacket and bottoms Warm hat and gloves Food, snacks and water Map and compass if you have one! A big smile!
Cancellation Policy
Hikes fees are non refundable as they are a charitable donation. Stride/Outsider reserves the right to cancel or postpone an event due to unforeseen circumstances or safety. A hike will only be cancelled due to weather conditions if an orange or above weather warning is issued by met eireann and the event will be rescheduled.
